ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
A Better Living
Through the years as the way of living has changed, modern day methods of fishing has greatly affected the marine environment. Thus these forms of fishing has turned destructive to the environment.
Nations all over the world has united to save the marine environment. Philippines for an instance is a country which is surrounded by water and is very much dependent on marine resources. And for how many years, people are still using destructive ways of catching fish not knowing . Destructive Fishing Method is featured in international fisheries literature for around three decades.
All nations are united for one goal, to make a better living without using such harmful ways of fishing. There is thousands of diverse type of animals in the sea who lived in. As of 1999, 124 nations explicitly gave their support to the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries 1995 through the Rome Declaration on Responsible Fisheries. The code of conduct contains a commitment to end destructive fishing practices. Different types of fishing methods can damage our seafloor habitats were fishes and corals exist in.
Even though the government have given threats, still this is not enough to conserve biodiversity and reduce humanity’s ecological footprint. As of now we can say that the reason behind why our marine environment has turned into wasteland is the pollution we give in. Bottom trawling, Cyanide fishing, Dynamite fishing, Ghost fishing, is there something more of these horrible techniques of destructive fishing? Is there something we can do about this thing? YES! We can do a lot of things, we just all need to be one and aims for the one goal and that is to build our strong partnerships towards a brighter future in our biodiversity and create a society for a better living.
